Polar aprotic organic solvent used in restoration for the selective removal of synthetic resins, adhesives, aged varnishes, and oxidized products from painted, wooden, and stone surfaces. Valued for its high penetration capacity and compatibility with a wide range of materials.
Composition:
- Pure dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)

- Polar aprotic solvent with high chemical stability

- Miscible with water and most organic solvents
Appearance:

Main uses:
- Removal of altered synthetic layers, adhesives, and resins from polychrome artworks and wooden supports
- Used pure or in mixtures for poultices and gels in localized treatments
- Suitable for sensitive surfaces due to its relatively low aggressiveness
- Selective alternative to more volatile and toxic solvents (e.g., NMP, acetone)
- Must be handled with protective equipment, as it can penetrate the skin and carry substances into the body
