TECHNICAL FEATURES
Chlorinated organic solvent used in restoration for the selective removal of greasy substances, waxes, oxidized resins, and varnishes from painted, stone, and wooden surfaces. It is valued for its high solvent power, slow evaporation, and low swelling effect on substrates.
Composition:
- Tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene)
- Chemical formula: C₂Cl₄
- Non-polar, non-flammable solvent
- High chemical stability
- Poor miscibility with water, good with organic solvents
Appearance:
- Clear, colorless liquid
- Characteristic sweet-chlorinated odor
- Moderate volatility
- Higher density than water
- Leaves no residue upon evaporation
Main uses:
- Removal of waxes, oils, greases, bitumen, and oxidized varnishes from painted and stone surfaces
