Lefranc Bourgeois’ Superfine Dammar Varnish is a high-quality final varnish formulated with natural dammar resin dissolved in turpentine essence. This composition gives the varnish an exceptional gloss and crystal-clear transparency, ideal for enhancing the brilliance of colors and the depth of oil paintings. The Superfine Dammar Varnish is designed to be applied as a final coat on fully dry oil paintings. It is essential to ensure the artwork is completely dry before application, as applying the varnish too early may lead to issues such as a sticky surface or unwanted absorption into the paint layers, ultimately compromising the final finish. In addition to delivering a glossy and radiant appearance, the varnish provides effective protection against dust, grease, smoke, scratches, and atmospheric agents. This protective layer helps preserve the integrity of the artwork over time, maintaining the vibrancy of the colors and the richness of the details. Another valuable quality of the Superfine Dammar Varnish is its reversibility: it can be removed using mineral spirits or distilled turpentine. Moreover, its non-yellowing nature ensures that the artwork retains its original tones over time, without undergoing color changes due to aging of the varnish. It’s important to note, however, that this varnish is intended exclusively for oil paintings and is not suitable for acrylics or other painting techniques.
