TECHNICAL FEATURES
Chelating agent used in the conservation of artworks and architectural surfaces for the controlled removal of salts and metallic oxides.
Composition:
- Disodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (Na₂EDTA)
- Synthetic-based chelating agent
- High water solubility
- Active at neutral to slightly alkaline pH
- Compatible with gel carriers (e.g. agar, carboxymethyl cellulose)
Appearance:
- White crystalline powder or granules
- Soluble in water (clear solution)
- Neutral odor
- Solution pH: 7–8
Main applications:
- Selective removal of black crusts, insoluble salts, and metallic oxides from stone and painted surfaces
- Cleaning of frescoes, wall paintings, marble, and archaeological bronze
- Application in gel or poultice form for localized and non-invasive treatments
